Are You Ready?

AUTUMN

“When I woke up this morning and took my coffee to the deck, I could see some fallen leaves under my feet and witnessed the beginnings of what promises to be a spectacular fall fashion show! My favorite seasons of the year are about to begin, and we have been busy getting the Gallery ready with new and exciting exhibits for you to share with us. Anthony is wrapping up a new painting and we have begun to shop for the Halloween goodies that we will share with all the kids (young & old!) when all of the Downtown Merchants in Blue Ridge sponsor the Halloween Safe Zone on October 31st. If you are in the area, plan on attending this great event (4:30PM to 8:30PM)…..I was amazed to see a live horse dressed up for the occasion last year, and I have never seen so many trick or treaters in one place at one time !” — Christine Abreu

New Exhibiting Artists

We are pleased to present some fabulous new art from some very talented artists and fine art photographers.

CHRIS OWEN

The West and its revered icon, the American cowboy, live the past, the present, and the future in the contemporary paintings of outstanding artist Chris Owen. His paintings portray the spirit and essence of the cowboy lifestyle – from riding herd to working with horses to everyday chores.

In 2006, a Giclee of the Owen’s painting, “A Cowboy’s Morning” won the prestigious International Benny Award for the finest Giclee of the year. In 2003, he was the official poster artist for the Coors Western Art Exhibit in Denver, where he also exhibits annually. In addition, Owen has won the “Museum Purchase” and “Limited Edition Print Artist” awards at the Cheyenne Frontier Days, Governor’s Invitational Art Show.

Owen studied fine art at Montana State University and was awarded a scholarship to study at the acclaimed Art Center college of Design in Los Angeles where he studied for two years. Owen lives and paints outside of Billings, Montana and has recently gained widespread recognition for his dramatic Western paintings. Chris Owen is one of Anthony’s favorite artists and we are proud to present some of his Signed & Numbered Canvas Giclee’s.

KIMBERLEE CURYL

Kimerlee Curyl is a premier fine art equestrian photographer. From wild stallions to exquisite Arabians, and private ranches, her work is published internationally.

Shortly after the arrival of her first horse, a mare named Sequoia, she visited a place called Return to Freedom, the American Wild Horse Sanctuary. With a dedicated passion to helping save America’s Wild Horses, Kimerlee’s hope is to inspire others, not only to appreciate the horse’s natural beauty, but to also take an interest in helping preserve their place on this land. The same land that without them we would have never traveled across.

In addition to her work with Return To Freedom, Curyl has donated several images to various organizations to help with the wild horse issue at hand. Her work has appeared in countless publications and advertising campaigns. She has photographed all breeds, all disciplines, celebrities and their horses, famous stallions and ranches.

Her first solo show debuted in Los Angeles with record breaking gallery sales….sparking collectors and galleries from all over the globe. Kimerlee Curyl is one of my favorite photographers and we are proud to present some of her wild horse photography from the Freedom Ranch. If you love horses, you will love her work. We will offer Open Edition prints from $45 to Signed & Numbered Giclee’s on Paper.

GARTH WEEKS

From a small studio apartment in Manhattan as an art director, to a permanent residence with all of us in Morganton, Georgia, we are pleased to present the work of Garth Weeks. In between New York and Georgia, Garth owned and operated an Ad Agency on Marco Island, Florida for 30 years during which time Garth won over 60 Addy Awards plus the American Express President’s Award for his outstanding work. Garth paints with acrylics in a style referred to as Trompe-l’oeil - French for “trick the eye”, an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional painting.

You have heard the old saying that if you are lucky enough to live in the mountains, then you are lucky enough! If you have ever met Garth Weeks and own a piece of his work, - you are lucky!

Please do not miss his most recent and remarkable paintings, “All The Marbles” and “Gone”. Both are original, framed acrylics in the Trompe-l’oeil style and we are proud to present them to you!

BILL BATES

Bill Bates was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in South Florida. He worked for the Fort Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel for over 40 years. During his newspaper career he advanced from Staff Photographer to the rank of Associate Editor Directing a combined staff of over 40 in the Photography, Art and Imaging Departments. He gained National recognition and many awards. Several of his award winning photographs may be seen today in the Football Hall of Fame.

His love for the beautiful scenery of the North Georgia Mountains was more than enough to move him and his wife, Elizabeth to the area, and by 1999 his work was selling throughout Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. His photography captures the magic and beauty of the mountains, lakes and landscape.

Bill lost his battle with cancer in 2008; however his legacy lives on in his wonderful scenic photography. We are honored to present some of his work to you.

The Art Corner Thoughts

As you give thoughts to items you may give as gifts to family or friends, consider the value of an art piece.  Unlike food gifts, they are most often not eaten.  Unlike clothing items, they do not wear out and become unstylish.  And unlike food or clothes, genuine art almost always appreciates in value.  It is enjoyed for lifetimes and passed on for other generations to cherish.  It can be a small item made by a local craftsman, or a print of your favorite painting, signed by the artist who created it.  It can be big or small, expensive or economical, and most always cherished by the person you give it to.

This past year has touched all of us.  For this Holiday season, I have made sure that there are gift choices for most any budget.  Yes we offer original paintings valued in the thousands, but we also offer artist signed prints under $50 and other keepsakes starting at $15.  There are payment programs for larger items, and we will always make sure that the items we offer are genuine and unique.

Art that catches your eye has stirred something within you.  It should never be collected just because it matches your interior colors, but because it makes your heart Happy – each and every time you look at it!
